From high school to his current position as a young professional, community service has always been important to Ted Harris of Albuquerque. Even in the midst of his undergraduate career at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL, Ted spent much of his time volunteering not only on campus, but throughout the greater community as well. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone,” says Ted Harris of Albuquerque, “and more people should be looking for ways that they can personally give back.”

- Uniting the community. With experience in the city government of Albuquerque, the strength of any given community is important to Ted Harris. “Community service allows people from all walks of life to come together to accomplish a single goal for the greater good,” says Ted Harris of Albuquerque.
- Saves resources. Because people are volunteering their time to do something that benefits others, Ted Harris of Albuquerque says that this ultimately saves resources. As a young professional with basic accounting experience, Ted Harris of Albuquerque estimates that a volunteer’s time is worth $15.39 per hour on average.
- Civic responsibility. Ted Harris of Albuquerque stresses that every person in the community matters and has a reason to be invested and involved in their community. As more citizens contribute, the stronger the community becomes.
